Heroic Rail Employee Suffers Life-Threatening Wounds Amid Mass Stabbing Attack on Express Train

A brave railway staff member who intervened to save passengers during a mass stabbing incident on a express train has sustained critical wounds, authorities stated on Sunday.

Particulars of the Frightening Event

CCTV video reportedly shows the employee trying to halt the assailant as the train traveled between Peterborough and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses recounted a terrifying 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through compartments.

The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in custody for interrogation. Police announced a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Response and Consequences

The event on Saturday night led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have since been released from hospital.

A witness recorded the suspect brandishing a big knife and being shot with a Taser as he confronted police on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. We are thinking of the victims and their families – especially the brave employee of rail staff whose relatives are being assisted by specialist personnel,” said a senior police official.

Union Response and Calls for Measures

Rail unions were quick to praise staff and call for more measures. One union official said he would be “requesting immediate discussions with government, train companies and law enforcement to ensure that we have the strongest possible support, tools and effective protocols in place”.

A different union leader urged the rail company and authorities “to move quickly to examine safety, to support the impacted workers, and to make sure nothing like this happens again”.

Operator Praised for Quick Action

The train driver who halted the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been commended by union officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He didn’t halt the service in the center of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to access, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” stated a union representative.

Further Information

Police stated they got the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness recounted at first wondering if the event was a Halloween joke, but quickly realized from people's expressions that it was serious.

Police have stated there is nothing to indicate the event was a terror-related attack and have requested the public to come forward with any further details.

Rail services on the affected route are anticipated to have disruption until Monday, with travelers advised to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Anyone with details that could help the investigation are encouraged to reach authorities by texting a designated number with a reference code.
