In a statement read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.
Police Inquiry
An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the beginning".
News coverage about the alleged stolen remains attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".
The "online posts were really distressing", she said.
Mental Wellbeing Impact
She added that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.
"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".
Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a police station and later released under investigation.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.
Isolation and Anxiety
His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".
When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied taking anything.
Digital Harassment
In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being bullied online after the accusations.
The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.
She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".
She described him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is totally shattered".
He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".
School Reaction
The inquest received testimony from school staff at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "overheard some students talking that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I heard".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' landline and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.
The court heard his family said they never receive that communication.
